Sounds provided by DJ Diaspora. Meet Ntsiki Biyela

Hailing from the rolling hills of Zululand, Ntsiki Biyela embarked on a life-changing journey to the Cape Winelands. Ntsiki grew up in Mahlabathini, a rural village in KwaZulu-Natal, and matriculated from high school in 1996. Having spent a year as a domestic worker, she was awarded a scholarship to study winemaking at Stellenbosch University in 1999. It was here that she discovered her talent and passion for creating captivating wines. She graduated in 2003 with a BSc in Agriculture (Viticulture and Oenology) and joined boutique winery Stellekaya as their winemaker the following year. Out of her dream comes a brand that pays tribute to her greatest inspiration, her much-loved grandmother, Aslina. The Aslina brand strongly echoes Ntsiki’s Zulu culture and heritage and the label features the calabash, a traditional clay drinking vessel. Although used typically for beer, Ntsiki has added her own unique twist by adding grapes to the calabash, transforming it into a container for her distinctive wines.
